Intercom Call Types

There are two distinct call types that are supported for the C9 Trader Intercom feature:
  • Peer-to-Peer
  • Peer-to-Group

Peer-to-Peer

Person-to-Person, or Peer-To-Peer Intercom calling is the most basic call type for internal intercom calling.

Auto Answer ON: Figure 2 above shows an intercom call initiated by Trader A to Trader B. Trader A selects a pre-assigned Intercom button which immediately establishes a full-duplex conversation between Trader A and Trader B using each users’ assigned microphone and speaker device for intercom call type. Note that unlike Cloud9 shout down and ring down buttons, Trader B does not have to select to activate the intercom button. The connection between Trader A and Trader B occurs without any manual intervention from Trader B. This immediate call connection element (Auto-Answer microphone) is a key ingredient to intercom, and why it is an efficient method for internal communications between traders, sales, research, back office, etc.

Auto Answer OFF: Figure 3 above shows an intercom call initiated by Trader A to Trader B with auto answer off. Trader A selects a pre-assigned Intercom button and Trader A will hear a call waiting tone and Trader B will receive an intercom pending tone. Trader B will be required to select the intercom button for audio to be full duplex between Trader A and B. Once the Trader B selects the intercom button, Trader’s B microphone will be active, and the intercom call will be a full duplex call.
Release: The intercom call will be released when any of the traders stop transmitting on the intercom call. This action can be completed when any of traders release the active intercom call or using the global release key which releases all active calls on the C9 Trader application.

Peer-to-Group

Peer-To-Group calling is the second mandatory call type for the C9 Trader intercom feature. This call type sequence involves a single caller, but with 2 or more called users, forming a group intercom call.
The auto answer functionality is different for peer to group. For a peer to group intercom call type, all subscribers on the intercom button will hear the calling party. Once any of the subscribers choose to be part of the intercom call, the audio will be a full duplex between the users who are transmitting and have the microphone active. All the remaining subscribers on the intercom button will continue to hear the users who are transmitting on the intercom button.
Auto Answer ON: Figure 4 above shows an intercom peer to group call initiated by Trader A to Trader B and Trader C. Trader A selects a pre-assigned Intercom button and Trader A’s microphone will be active and will be able to transmit. Trader B and C will hear Trader’s audio but will not be transmitting any audio. Trader B will be required to select the intercom button for any audio be full duplex between Trader A and B. Once Trader B selects the intercom button and is transmitting, all remaining users on the peer to group call will hear all the traders transmitting audio on the button. In this case, Trader C will hear both Trader A and B.

Auto Answer OFF: Figure 5 above shows an intercom peer to group call initiated by Trader A to Trader B and Trader C. Trader A selects a pre-assigned Intercom button and Trader A will hear a call waiting tone and Trader B and C will receive an intercom pending call. Trader B will be required to select the intercom button for any audio to be full duplex between Trader A and B. Once the Trader B selects the intercom button, Trader’s B microphone will be active and the intercom call will be a full duplex call between Trader A and B. Trader C’s button will visually indicate voice activity on the button and will show the last name of Trader A and B. Trader C will not hear the voice activity since the auto answer is turned off for Trader C.

Release: The intercom button will go to an idle state when the last user transmitting on the button stop transmitting. This action can be completed when all of traders release the active intercom call or using the global release key which releases all active calls on the C9 Trader application.
